It was my friends birthday on Friday, I was looking forward to seeing her as I hadn’t seen her in quite a while as she has been busy polishing off her Masters degree. I trundled off to Moshi Moshi with excitement to see her, and to bestow my thoughtful gifts upon her.
One of my favourite things is giving people presents. I love that moment when they open up the paper and their face lights up. Purely selfish of course, gaining joy from them thinking im totally awesome.
In reality, there is something that gets in the way of this scenario. That is my wrapping abilities, or lack thereof. Wrapping presents is one of my least favourite ways to spend my time. I get bored of it very quickly. Christmas is a nightmare for me, so much to wrap up and id rather be doing anything else, even the washing up.
When it came to wrapping my friends presents i did ok on the first two, not a brilliant job by any stretch of the imagination but the result was passable. By the third present, a necklace, i had lost all interest in the futile act of wrapping. Once I stuck the first fold down, I had come to the end of my Sellotape roll. I knew I had some more somewhere, having just bought some days before, but after about thirty seconds of searching I got distracted and gave up. I thought to myself, I have gaffer tape somewhere, but that required further searching. I ultimately decided that one stuck down side would have to do.
Below is the result.
My friends all roared with laughter upon me producing this at the table, ‘another Jess classic’ and ‘I love your wrapping’ we amongst the soundbites. When making my decision to leave the present half wrapped, I thought, well no one is going to die if I dont wrap this properly, so why waste my time. Plus I bet everyone will laugh at my sloppy work. It all worked out...
I just dont understand those people that spend hours wrapping, with bows, rulers, glue guns....etc. I mean, wouldn’t they rather be, say, watching TV, playing on their Xbox, or eating cake?!
